Original description as Cyrtocara moorii:

ZooBank:66F57830-14EC-415C-AB14-8D4319D9E872.

  • Boulenger, George Albert. 1902. "Diagnoses of new cichlid fishes discovered by Mr. J. E. S. Moore in Lake Nyassa". Annals and Magazine of Natural History. (Ser. 7) 69-71 (crc00067)

Conservation: Cyrtocara moorii is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (LC) least concern (2006). Since there has been large scale over-fishing going on during the last two decades, most of the Cyrtocara moorii have been wiped out from their usual habitat.
