Conservation: Symphysodon discus is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (LC) least concern (2018). Symphysodon discus is considered frequent and abundant. The species is marketed as ornamental, being found in regional fishing markets, however, no significant threats have been detected to endanger their populations (Instituto Chico Mendes de Conservação da Biodiversidade (ICMBio), 2022).
