Aulonocara kandeense (Tawil & Allgayer, 1988)

Original description as Aulonocara maylandi kandeensis:

ZooBank:2687F651-F9A7-4670-BD3A-5F562810268E.

  • Tawil, Patrick & Allgayer, R.. 1988. "Description de Aulonocara maylandi kandeensis subsp. n. (Pisces, Cichlidae) du lac Malawi". Cybium. 11(2): 159-166 (crc00210)

Conservation: Aulonocara kandeense is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (VU) vulnerable (2006). Data is lacking. I would say that the species is threatened as Kande Island is a very small island and fishing by local fishermen is intense. Since the species forages over the sand it is often scooped up by fish nets.
