Aulonocara maylandi Trewavas, 1984

Original description as Aulonocara maylandi:

ZooBank:4885D783-953D-4703-A7FA-38B421B32216.

  • Trewavas, Ethelwynn. 1984. "Un nom et une description pour l'Aulonocara (sulphur-head), Poisson cichlide du lac Malawi". Revue fran├žaise d'Aquariologie et Herpetologie. vol. 11 (1); pp. 7-10 (crc00211)

Conservation: Aulonocara maylandi is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (CR) critically endangered (2018). In my opinion is this species somewhat threatened by overfishing of collectors of ornamental fishes as the last few times I visited these reefs I didn't see the numbers I used to see 10-15 years ago. Local fishermen do not collect this species.
