Original description as Labidochromis flavigulis:

  • Lewis, Digby. 1982. "A Revision of the Genus Labidochromis (Teleostei: Cichlidae) from Lake Malawi". Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society. pp. 189-265 (crc00119)

Conservation: Labidochromis flavigulis is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (VU) vulnerable (2006). Small rock-dwelling cichlids are not affected by the over-fishing going on in Lake Malawi and will swim through even the smallest mesh gill nets. So Labidochromis flavigulis is not threatened and won't be in the foreseeable future.
