Protomelas triaenodon (Trewavas, 1935)

Original description as Haplochromis triaenodon:

ZooBank:A62D52E8-6216-49DE-BF59-1C046B9467C7.

  • Trewavas, Ethelwynn. 1935. "A Synopsis of the Cichlid Fishes of Lake Nyasa". Annals and Magazine of Natural History. Series 10; pp. 65-118 (crc00118)

Conservation: Protomelas triaenodon is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (LC) least concern (2018). Protomelas triaenodon does not seem to be threatened by over-fishing by beach seines because it occurs in water deeper than where most seines are employed, but I have never seen schools of this species.
