Original description as Lamprologus kungweensis:

ZooBank:0327DDDE-0C02-49BE-95C0-7632F9F71904.

  • Poll, Max. 1956. "Poissons Cichlidae - Lamprologus kungweensis". Exploration hydrobiologique du lac Tanganika (1946-1947) - Résultats scientifiques. 570-572 (crc03465) (abstract)

Conservation: Neolamprologus kungweensis is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (CR) critically endangered (2006). Neolamprologus kungweensis is evaluated by the IUCN red list as critically endangered, but this is seemingly erroneous, since this species is rather abundant in its habitat according to Bills & Ribbink (1997) and has no restricted range.
