Conservation: Ophthalmotilapia boops is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (LC) least concern (2006). This restricted-ranged species is still rather common at some places in Tanzania, but remains vulnerable to overfishing, and takings for the aquarium trade must remains under reasonable levels.
