Conservation: Crenicichla prenda is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (NT) near threatened (2018). Crenicichla prenda is a species associated with rapids, in a region very compromised by current and planned dams. The construction of waterfall reservoirs in the upper Uruguai River has changed the preferred habitats of the species.
