It meets the area requirements for Endangered and it is known from three locations. However, continuing declines in habitat quality or population size are possible but uncertain. The effects of sedimentation on this species are unknown and it is therefore listed as Near Threatened. Since it lives among the rocks of shallow water it is unlikely to end up in beach seines as nets can't be pulled in such habitats. It has rarely been collected for the aquarium hobby as the main population between Sani and Kirambu Point is very sparse and demand for this species has been very low. There is thus no pressure from the ornamental fish trade.
