Conservation: Etroplus suratensis is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (LC) least concern (2019). The species is widespread and, while it is declining in parts of its range, it is not thought that any global population decrease is happening. Wild populations of Etroplus suratensis are subject to various pressures, such as habitat deterioration due to the disposal of solid and liquid wastes, and the discharge of sewage from adjacent human settlements, which are going beyond the carrying capacity of the estuaries. A major threat is from exotic species like Oreochromis mossambicus and Trichogaster trichopterus (Abraham et al., 2019).
