Synonimy (1):

Ochrona: Haplochromis serranus jest wpisany prez Międzynarodową Unię Ochrony Przyrody do Czerwonej Księgi Gatunków Zagrożonych IUCN jako (DD) Brak danych (2010). Haplochromis serranus has been brought to the hobby and some were kept in Europe, we are making an effort to recover as many of the predators species that have been vanished from the lake by the Nile Perch predation. Haplochromis serranus has been collected last in 1993 so there is a chance that some still survive in areas with cover such as bog plant areas and rocks reefs.
