Conservation: Stomatepia pindu is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (CR) critically endangered (2009). Considering its restricted distribution to a single lake, the increasing human pressure from the neighboring town of Kumba on the lake (including introduced species), Stomatepia pindu, and all other endemics of Barombi Mbo should be and are subject of breeding programs. Protection of the lake itself was suggested on various occasions, but so far no further steps seem to have been taken to reach this aim.
